Knowing what tiles are on-trend will help you smash your next tiling project in 2022!
Often one of the easiest ways of making over your bathroom or flooring is by updating your tiles. The type of tiles you choose can affect the whole look and feel of the space you are renovating and define what other finishes work within your area. In saying that, getting the right tiles can make all the difference to the overall vibe of your project.
As Newcastle’s leading stockists of specialty tiles, our team have pulled together their predictions for the tile trends to watch in 2022.
1. Warm Greys (Greige) & Sands
The popularity of warm neutral colours like Greige and Sands will likely extend far into 2022. Soft earthy tile colours in natural stone look, more bush stone style than marble.
Think ivory, off white, cream, sand, pearl, bone and beige. Neutral colours are widely used in these shades to decorate every room in the home.

2. Japanese Glazed Pottery Style Tiles
Traditional Japanese glazed tiles are often made with the philosophy of Wabi-sabi (beauty in imperfection). No two pieces are quite the same, giving a gorgeously textured look. Japanese glazed tiles are often used for splashbacks and feature walls.

Of course, if you like more uniform lines and shapes, a Japanese Finger Mosaic could be more up your alley!

3. Mid Century Modern
When you’re planning a 1930s through to 1960s inspired designed bathroom or kitchen with a modern twist, you will need Mid Century Modern tiles to match!
Muted pastels in handmade look squares are very popular for feature walls (pinks, blues) in Mid Century Modern designs. You can pair the muted pastels with bold graphic tiles and timber vanities to good effect.

4. Terrazzo

Terrazzo is still going strong, and coloured terrazzo tiles are where the trend is heading (particularly ones with warm flecks of sand and burnt orange).

5. Brass Trims, Drains And Tapware
Tiles are being accentuated with brass to elevate the style. Brass use is by no means a new trend; however, its versatility and aesthetic have seen it go from strength to strength.
Other variations to Brass like Brushed Nickle, Gunmetal and aged finished tapware like Bronze or Tumbled Brass are also popular.

6. Mixed Shape & Size Feature Walls
Mixed tile sizes, shapes and irregular surfaces are being in subway tile feature walls intentionally to evoke the sensations of handmade products. The varying sizes can be all used together for unique pattern-making.

7. Unusual Coloured Marbles
Marble comes in all kinds of colours and textures. Compacted rocks inside the earth naturally form marble, resulting in unusual colours and textures, and it’s some of the more obscure variations trending right now!
For example, Viola Calacatta (White marble with burgundy and gold vein), Peacock Green (highly varied green), Rojo Alicante (orange/red marble), River Jade (White, green, black marble)

Calacatta Viola feature marble, with strong veins of burgundy and hints of gold it is a standout! Complemented here with subways to bring out the colour, and brass trim and drains to reflect the gold.

Who’s afraid of the dark? River Jade gives a dramatic and masculine mood. Dark bathrooms are a bold choice that feels luxurious.

Peaches and Cream. We think this new Rojo Alicante fan mosaic with warm pinks and oranges is stunning! Pair it with warm stone looks, terracotta, and timber.
8. Gold Veined Calacatta Marble
We’ve sold a lot of Gold Veined Calacatta Marble tiles instead of the Carrara/Grey vein that has been popular last few years.

The Calacutta’s Oro’s exquisite and varied pattern mimics that of a natural stone. The organic pattern and natural colours ripple through the design creating a contemporary and sophisticated finish. Calcutta Oro comes in both a matt and polished finish.
9. In/Out finishes
In/Out tiles are a new tile technology, a finish that is easy to clean to use internally but grips sufficient to use on verandahs and patios.
Some popular brands are SurfaceTec and SmoothGrip.

The ENZO range is a great In/Out tile!
